13 Best Gundam Series of All Time

For those who don’t know the term “gundam”, Gundam is an advanced, high performance mobile suit, often constructed to be much more powerful than the standard production mobile suits. They are generally equipped with the latest experimental technology available at the time of their construction.

Okay now here is the best gundam series of all time, this is my own opinion. They are not in order because when it comes to best anime we shouldn’t compare or try to rank them in my opinion. Just take it as recommendation.

1 Gundam 00

Mobile Suit Gundam 00 is yet another addition to Sunrise’s long running metaseries Mobile Suit Gundam, as well as the newest in the line of alternative universe Gundams. In a franchise as big as Gundam, it’s very easy to get overshadowed by predecessors and living up to the namesake of Gundam is tough. After so many series, it’s hard not to recycle the same material and Gundam 00 is no exception. But its unique execution and incorporation of realistic issues going on in this world makes this a series worth checking out by both long time fans and newcomers.

2 Gundam Seed

This is definitely my favorite. The characters come to life and everything else falls into place behind that. A lot of people cling onto Mobile Suit Gundam as the only good one because it’s the original, but though it was a good series that obviously propelled the creation of all subsequent Gundams, for this generation of anime fans, it’s sorely outdated. I really feel like Gundam SEED should be the series taking its place for the post-2000 generation of fans.

3 Gundam Wing

Granted I do believe this series is a great gateway to the Gundam universe, I personally don’t believe it should be used as a barometer to what defines a great Gundam series. Each Gundam is different. You can’t compare this series to 08th MS Team, or Zeta Gundam.

But this series does have its significant flaws like all other series have, and which is why I have never given any anime so far an overall perfect 10/10. But if anything annoyed me about this series, it is most certainly Relena.

I remember after Gundam Wing aired, there were websites in dedication to her death. I’ll admit I was and still am one of those fanboys who wish Relena died. She’s like the Hillary Clinton of the anime universe. And I don’t mean that as a compliment. I find her to be annoying, and a hypocrite. If you have seen the series, you know what I’m talking about, and if you want to know, check this series out.

4 Gundam AGE

The only thing probably I am really trying to overlook is the Gundam model itself, which is not as detailed as the gundams we have seen over the last decade or so. I cannot agree more with those who think the Gundam AGE design is mediocre and lacks originality, because I thought the same way too. But what gives? I already think the anime has huge potential and could be one of the better shows this season, or might even become one of the best shows in the whole calendar year. You just never know. Into episode three, and it has shown much more promise than Gundam 00 managed in its entire first half of season one.
